Ruby Rose

Precious coral or red coral is the common name given to Corallium rubrum and several related species of marine coral. The distinguishing characteristic of precious corals is their durable and intensely colored red or pink skeleton, which is used for making jewelry.
The hard skeleton of red coral branches is naturally matte, but can be polished to a glassy shine. It exhibits a range of warm reddish pink colors from pale pink to deep red; the word coral is also used to name such colors. Owing to its intense and permanent coloration and glossiness, precious coral skeletons have been harvested since antiquity for decorative use. Coral jewellery has been found in ancient Egyptian and prehistoric European burials, and continues to be made to the present day.

Onyx, Swarovski beads, Silver plated copper wire

Legend has it that as Aphrodite, goddess of love, lay in majestic slumber on the bank of the Indus River, a playful Eros (Cupid) decided to give her an impromptu manicure with one of his trademark arrowheads. Cast asunder, the freshly clipped fingernails rolled down the bank and sank to the bottom of the river, where they were magically transformed by Zeus’ three daughters, The Fates, into splendid black quartz. Thus, ‘onyx’ (a word roughly translated as ‘nail’ or ‘claw’) was born./via:Stones&Findings/

Colorful agates and other chalcedonies were obtained over 3,000 years ago from the Achates River, now called Dirillo, in Sicily.

Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue.

The substance has been known by many names, but the word turquoise, which dates to the 16th century, is derived from an Old French word for “Turkish”, because the mineral was first brought to Europe from Turkey, from the mines in historical Khorasan Province of Iran. Pliny the Elder referred to the mineral as callais, the Iranians named it “pirouzeh” and the Aztecs knew it as Teoxihuitl.

One of the first gems ever mined, turquoise delighted traders on the Silk Road, and is still associated with the Middle East. Apart from the exotic charm of its unbelievable rich colour, this association owes to the Persian Empire’s role as the premier source of the world’s turquoise for 2000 years. In present day Turkey, which the stone was most likely named after because of erroneous assumptions about the stone’s origins, turquoise can still be seen adorning the insides and outsides of mosques everywhere.
